Incan hand woven rope bridge (Atlas Obscura via Boing Boing) - once these were major components of Incan road system, and lasted 500 years. Now one remains, recently repaired in 2003.
How much of a functional, modern town could you build by hand with human scale materials? I love big architecture, skyscrapers, heroic steel bridges, insane freeway cloverleafs, all that. But also think living in a handmade town would be cool.
